The Conference Will Bring Together 500+ Community Members to Learn Best Practices for Kafka Deployments from Experts, Core Committers and Key Users
PALO ALTO, Calif.—April 21, 2016—Confluent, founded by the original creators of Apache™ Kafka®, today announced the final lineup of speakers and sponsors for the inaugural Kafka Summit, set to take place on April 26 at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco. Marking the height of fruitful collaboration for the Apache Kafka community, Kafka Summit will offer more than 500 attending community members the opportunity to learn about how companies are using Kafka today for large-scale, real-time data integration and stream processing in a variety of applications, and hear about where project development is headed in the future.
The one-day conference is filled with a total of 29 sessions, including keynotes from Jay Kreps, one of Kafka’s original co-creators and the CEO and co-founder of Confluent, who will speak on “The Rise of Real-Time,” and Aaron Schildkrout, head of marketing and data at Uber, who will present on “Kafka + Uber: The World’s Real-Time Transit Infrastructure.”
“Real-time data isn’t just a high-tech phenomenon–Apache Kafka has reached a pivotal moment and is being used as a central platform for managing stream data in organizations across many industries, making real-time data a reality for enterprises large and small,” said Kreps. “We’re excited to hear from everyone at the conference about how they’re using Kafka to build real-time applications to integrate their data systems, derive new insights and make better decisions, faster.”
Confluent will kickstart its public training program with a sold out Kafka tutorial and pair of Operations and Developer-focused courses bookending Kafka Summit. For more information on future Kafka courses, please visit https://www.confluent.io/training.
On Monday, April 25, the Apache Kafka community will hold its first Stream Data Hackathon in San Francisco.Currently at capacity, the hackathon will focus on Kafka’s new high-level tools for real-time data integration and stream processing, Kafka Connect and Kafka Streams, which together form a powerful toolset for building real-time data pipelines. For more information on the hackathon, please visit https://kafka-summit.org/hackathon/.
At Kafka Summit, participants will have the opportunity to share Kafka-related tips and best practices with one another, hear real-world use cases, experience live demos and discuss the future of Kafka. Sessions include:

Apache Kafka is an open source technology that acts as a real-time, fault tolerant, highly scalable messaging system. It is widely adopted for use cases ranging from collecting user activity data, logs, application metrics, stock ticker data and device instrumentation. Its key strength is its ability to make high volume data available as a real-time stream for consumption in systems with very different requirements—from batch systems like Hadoop, to real-time systems that require low-latency access, to stream processing engines that transform the data streams as they arrive. This infrastructure lets you build around a single central nervous system transmitting messages to all the different systems and applications within a company.
Confluent, founded by the original creators of Apache™ Kafka®, enables organizations to harness business value from stream data. The Confluent Platform manages the barrage of stream data and makes it available throughout an organization. It provides various industries, from retail, logistics and manufacturing, to financial services and online social networking, a scalable, unified, real-time data pipeline that enables applications ranging from large volume data integration to big data analysis with Hadoop to real-time stream processing. Backed by Benchmark, Data Collective, Index Ventures and LinkedIn, Confluent is based in Palo Alto. To learn more, please visitwww.confluent.io.
