Throughout my career in enterprise technology, I've witnessed numerous transformations play out across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. But the shift we're seeing now with data streaming is truly unprecedented. What was once a supportive technology is rapidly becoming the very foundation of modern business in our region. The findings from “The Asia-Pacific Data Streaming Advantage" study—which is based on our broader research but dives deep into findings based on responses collected from 1,424 IT leaders across the APAC region—underscore this shift. The study reveals that almost two-thirds of APAC data streaming adopters are achieving an impressive 5x or greater return on investment (ROI) on their investments.

Having worked with diverse businesses across APAC, from established enterprises to innovative startups, I've seen firsthand how real-time data can revolutionize operations. It's not just about faster processing—it's about fundamentally changing how businesses operate, compete, and innovate. Our study shows, for example, that 80% of the APAC organizations surveyed have achieved significant benefits in creating rich and responsive customer experiences through data streaming—a crucial competitive edge in our dynamic markets.

What’s more, the adoption of integrated data streaming platforms (DSPs), that make streaming technology much more accessible by mainstream businesses, is accelerating across APAC. In fact, 94% of research respondents view DSPs as critical or important to achieving their data and information-related goals. This widespread recognition of DSPs' value is driving substantial investments, positioning APAC businesses to compete even more effectively in the global digital economy.

In the remainder of this blog post, I'll highlight some of the research findings I find most exciting. For a comprehensive view of how APAC organizations are leveraging data streaming to drive multifaceted benefits—from transforming customer experiences to optimizing operational costs—I encourage you to download the full research.

Empowering AI and innovation across APAC

One of the most exciting developments I've observed recently is the synergy between data streaming and AI adoption, and this comes through strongly in the research. Our research reveals that 58% of APAC organizations see data streaming as an enabler when it comes to innovating around AI and machine learning. This is particularly crucial in markets like India and Singapore, where we're seeing rapid advancements in generative AI in particular.

Data streaming platforms are proving to be key enablers for AI initiatives by providing the real-time, contextualized data necessary for training and operating AI models effectively. As someone who has been involved in technology strategy for years, I can confidently say that this integration of DSPs and AI will be a game-changer for APAC businesses looking to stay competitive on the global stage.

Driving data product adoption and strong ROI

Another trend I'm particularly excited about is the adoption of data products. Our research shows that APAC businesses are increasingly recognizing the value of serving up enterprise data in reusable product form—a shift that's driving significant benefits. In fact, 98% of respondents say data products, built on the foundation of data streaming platforms, are enabling more confident data sharing across business units and opening up new avenues for innovation and digital transformation (91%).

The ROI figures speak for themselves: 64% of APAC data streaming adopters report achieving 5x or greater ROI from their investments. This number rises to 69% for Indonesian businesses and 71% for Indian companies. Even in more mature markets like Australia and Japan, over half of the surveyed organizations are seeing similarly high levels of return.

Addressing common data challenges

Over the years, I've seen organizations grapple with various data-related challenges—from siloed data leading to inconsistent views of the business, to difficulties in data discovery and access. Our study confirms that data streaming platforms are helping APAC organizations address many of these pervasive issues.

By ensuring data is available in real time, everywhere it's needed, DSPs are breaking down data silos and enabling businesses to focus on innovation and execution rather than struggling with complex data integration. This is particularly crucial in the diverse APAC market, where businesses often operate across multiple countries and need to navigate varying regulatory landscapes.

Looking ahead

As we move further into 2024 and beyond, I'm confident that data streaming will continue to be a key driver of business agility and innovation across APAC. The strong adoption rates and impressive ROI figures we're seeing are just the beginning.

Whether you're just starting your data streaming journey or looking to expand your existing initiatives, now is the time to act. The potential rewards for APAC businesses are substantial, and the opportunity to gain a competitive edge is clear.

I invite you to download “The Asia-Pacific Data Streaming Advantage” study for a deeper dive into how organizations across our region are harnessing the power of data streaming to drive business success. Let's embrace this technology to unlock new possibilities and shape the future of business in APAC.
